Happy birthday to me! I am baffled that we’ve yet to make it to Bianchis this year, but thrilled that we get to for my birthday. We are treated as hospitably as ever, with a bonus starter of a gorgeous roasted cauliflower salad, laden with raisins and toasted almonds. It would be rude not to have an arancino (today, Grana Moravia and taleggio, so we’re really cheesing it up), so I do. It’s my birthday and I’ll have a primi, secondi, and dolci if I want. To start, a dish of rigatoni with a white ragu of salsiccia and raddicchio, beautifully rich without being overwhelming. The grilled chicken thigh follows, served with lucchese potatoes. The chicken is perfectly crisp on the outside and tender in the middle, and complemented nicely by a generous saucing of black garlic aioli and salsa verde. We finish up with an espresso martini and a panna cotta served with fig, complete with candle in it. Forgetting that it’s a work night, a limoncello hits the spot on our way out. What a lucky birthday boy I am.
