Britney - Holy Mackerel!

Pleasance Courtyard, 2026-08-16

Sketch shows are - statistically, at least - probably under-represented in our Edinburgh schedules. For good reason, mostly. But I remember loving the 5 minutes I saw of Britney a few years ago when teching a disastrous Party in 2022, and have been waiting for their return ever since. So here we are. For a sketch show, it’s a pretty good hit rate; no major misses, and some strong highlights. The best sketches are filled with a happy combination of on point jokes and worn-in character moments from the get go - women in STEM being a strong example.. Even in the less strong ones, there’s usually something setting it apart - an elaborate prop in the courtroom sketch, sheer dedication to the bit in the Gillette sketch. Charly Clive and Ellen Robertson are both fantastic performers. The patter may hew a little too closely to the stereotypical fringe sketch show interludes, but hey, it’s a trope for a reason. There’s a lot of care in and for the room, which really does set them apart. A big fan of the whole thing.
