With the sad demise of Cafe Renroc a couple of years ago, it’s more of a struggle to find a good Full Scottish breakfast, but luckily the ever-popular Edinburgh Larder comes in clutch. Booking a table for four of us even two months out was a surprisingly difficult task, but we’ve made it work. Not one of us goes for anything other than a Full Scottish, and we’re all rewarded for our dedication with a very generously piled plate. The highlight is obviously the tattie scone, a delicacy I miss 364 days of the year, gorgeously fried and used here by me to mop up a perfectly runny-yolked egg. The black pudding and haggis are presumably already killing me from the inside, but they’re worth it alongside the bacon and sadly single but happily hefty sausage. Some actual veg is good, with some very nice vine tomatoes and mushrooms, although the universal truth that however carefully an establishment has created their own recipe for baked beans, I will just want a ramekin of Heinz baked beans instead does apply. An excellent start to the day that will absolutely keep me going.
