Our last night in Barcelona, and we make our way to Rasoterra, a restaurant our friend Jenny has recommended us that is 100% vegan, which is a reassurance to both of us that there’s no worries that whatever is ordered and put in front of us, Alasdair will be able to eat.
Because it wouldn’t be a low-key set menu without a crisp, the appetiser of the day is just such a thing, garnished witth some seasonal vegetables and an emulsion of some sort. It starts us off nicely.
I think I’m most impressed with my starter, a delicious combination of calcot flowers with a leek marinade - again, the kind of thing where if you just do the real thing, the natural strength of plant based foods come through.
This is maybe less so with the fake ricotta in the main course, which, given I can’t say I’m a huge fan of the real stuff, was probably a mistake. The rest of it, though, delicious, a fresh pasta with a cavolo nero pesto. The ricotta was just too much.
A poached pear sourdough pudding puts me right back on track, though, as does a shot of limoncello to the system. I’m worried I’ve harped on about the ricotta too much - I genuinely enjoyed my time as Rasoterra and would happily return having learnt my lesson.
