Maresco

London, 2025-10-22

A trip to London is always a good excuse to catch up with Milly, and with my train an hour late, I’m glad for my perennial need to build in buffer into my schedule. Maresco is perfect for Milly, a Spanish tapas restaurant via Scotland. A lot of traditional stuff going on, with Iberican ham croquetas and boquerones to start us off. Both delicious, but I crave something more interesting. This is happily served up with the tempura goats cheese served with honey, beautifully tart and cut through with the sweetness. The venison is cooked to perfection and served pretty much unadorned, so confident are they in its quality. The star for me, though, was the tuna with a very light sesame dressing, beautifully fatty in the right places and utterly melting in the mouth. Up there with Paco Tapas and Mont Bar for the tuna I will on occasion wake up thinking about. Dessert is eschewed in favour of a quick trip to Italian Bear afterwards instead. I’ll absolutely be coming back at some point - always a delight to have a new go-to in Soho.
