The triple threat herself. I’m dedicating one fifth of my bullet points to reminiscing about seeing her pre-debut-show at OPPO years ago (still in its vague current incarnation at the then White Rabbit), and I’ve loved her ever since.
That being said, oh boy is there a lot of her here. This was the end of a long day and did I need nearly two hours of her plus support? Not really. I was very tired at that point, and there was a little bit of clockwatching.
That’s maybe an unfair impression to give of the show, though - she’s very funny. She’s excellent at understanding how to make things work through her speech patterns and still not let the audience guess the punchline before she’s got to it.
I really enjoyed the playfulness and how it extended beyond just persona and crowd control to structural stuff too - the announcement early doors that she’s only written three jokes for the show, and they’re all at the end, really nicely provides a semblanace of structure to a show that doesn’t need more than that.
Dane Buckley is a well chosen support act for the night, gregarious and able to muddle his way through the mic breaking mid-set. A natural complement to Jones.
