At dinner a few weeks ago, Fauzy tells us that a friend of his has sent him a link to a club night at Motion. He claims he was telling us this as a joke, but Alasdair and I are enthused at the mention of Confidence Man and it becomes an actual plan.
We do not particularly think this through. It lasts until 5am. Last entry is 11.30pm. I am 30 years old.
When we book tickets, we have no prior plans and that would be fine. In the event, though, we end up seeing Stewart Lee earlier in the evening, which means we return to my flat to quickly down some canned cocktails and get the hell out of there to Motion.
Eventually in, we have what I vaguely recall as being a pretty classic club night. There are some DJs on before Confidence Man who are playing the kind of music that you (I) can dance to after a sufficient amount of alcohol; we make friends with a couple who have come all the way from Abingdon for this; I bond with the girl whose name I’ve forgotten who is the one who grew up there over memories of Wiggy’s World; there are some terrible photobooth photos taken on my insistence; Alasdair meets a fan; and much drinking and further dancing.
Eventually, Confidence Man end up playing in their veils (despite a conspiracy theory later posited to us by a friend of a friend), and whilst I don’t detect a particular difference in the quality of the music or the mixing, it was always unlikely that I was going to. We eventually have our fill, have a burger (me) and chips (both of us), and go home at 3am for a well-earned hangover day.
